Dermolipectomy

Dermolipectomy is a surgical procedure that takes or resects the extra skin and extra fat tissue, tissue that presents sagging, in arms (Brachioplasty), the posterior waist or lumbar (Lumbar Lifting), in thighs (Tights Lifting) and in the abdomen (this last one was described in a previous link as Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck). All of these are performed with the purpose of improving the body contour, usually after weight reduction.

These procedures are indicated usually in patients that have had overweight or obesity problems and that given weight reduction or sagging at aging, present extra skin and fat tissue (Ptotic). Its very frequent on patients that have had surgical procedures such as Bariatric Surgery or Gastric Bypass, Stomach-Band, Sleeves Gastrectomy, Intragastric Balloons, or even on older patients that have lost fat volume, elasticity and skin tone. Is recommended to wait till the patient’s weight is stabilized, especially in Bariatric Surgery patients, at least a year after the procedure.

Dermolipectomy can be performed in one or more sessions, according patient’s characteristics and the medical associated conditions. Technique, no matter the location, implies an incision, removing the extra skin and fat tissue (redundant flab) and closing again. This procedure lasts between one or two hours for each Dermolipectomy. Is performed under general or regional anesthesia. Its ambulatory in most cases, unless there is an especial clinic condition on the patient, preview or after the surgery that indicates hospitalization.

During the postoperative, there will be swelling, pain, bruises (ecchymosis), serous and bloody drainage with a two weeks top length.

During the postoperative, there will be swelling, pain, bruises (ecchymosis), serous and bloody drainage with a two weeks top length.

Within adverse eventualities, we can find hematomas or seromas, infections or open wounds, poor cicatrization, necrosis or death of some skin portions, sensibility alterations. The anesthetics and surgical risks are similar to all the other surgical procedures.

The recovery implies the use of analgesics and antibiotics for a week. Draining systems until the volume is under 50 cc per day, strips for two months, moisturizing creams, care to the scars, no big physical efforts. The patient must attend the scheduled medical controls. The medical leave of absence will depend of the job preformed by the patient, but it goes between one to two weeks.
